Duke Forest Eno River Experimental WatershedsThe site consists of three experimental catchments in the Eno Division of Duke Forest, located in Orange County along the east side of Route 86, south of Hillsborough, North Carolina. Each of the catchments are about 10 acres in size. The catchments are all hardwood stands that have most likely never been cultivated but have been used for grazing, timber, and fuelwood collection. They lie on Carolina Slate, Georgeville, and Goldston soils. The experimental catchments have been in continuous operation since 1991, with rain intensity measured in 15-minute intervals and stream stage height recorded every minute. The records for the site from 1991 to the present are nearly complete. The principle investigator for the project is Dan Richter. The project manager is Paul Heine. |
