ACT personnel provide advice and consulting on statistical and bioinformatics research elements of CCBVP related projects. ACT faculty and researchers have a range of expertise and research interests that cut across statistical analysis and modelling, including spatial statistics, epidemiology, various advanced statistical modelling approaches in environmental and health applications, statistical issues and analysis in policy arenas, bioinformatics in functional genomics and genetic studies, and gene expression analysis. The specific aims are to:

  • provide statistical analysis, advice, and consulting in a broad range of statistical issues, and thereby facilitate the development of improved environmental research as well as define substantive collaborations involving statisticians and computational biologists;
  • provide statistical analysis, advice, and consulting on gene expression array studies and proteomics, including the use of both Affymetrix technology and custom cDNA array technologies; in this area, also, ACT personnel will both promote the use of sound statistical methods as well as define areas for more advanced statistical analysis and collaborative research;
  • provide statistical analysis, advice, and consulting on a range of genetic analysis and bioinformatics topics, including support for SNP studies and for the exploration and evaluation of genes identified through the use of genomic databases and bioinformatics software systems
