Achieving corporate sustainability requires business, environmental, and policy professionals who understand, anticipate and can act on environmental challenges in innovative ways. CSI will help train the next generation of business and policy leaders in corporate sustainability through various educational programs offered at Duke University. CSI serves as coordinating mechanism to help leverage the vast educational resources at Duke including our top ranked Fuqua School of Business and Nicholas School of Environment.
Below, we describe some of the specific programs that support training of corporate sustainability professionals:
- Concurrent MBA/MEM degree program: Training in corporate sustainability requires hybrid expertise in environmental management, business strategy, and policy development. CSI helps support Duke's Concurrent Masters in Business Administration/Masters in Environmental Management degree – a three-year program where students spend a year of intensive study at both the Fuqua School of Business and the Nicholas School of the Environment with a third year spent completing electives across the University.
- Fuqua Concentration in Energy and Environment: A new MBA concentration in Energy and Environment gives students the opportunity to gain expertise in these areas as they prepare for careers focused on sustainability. Students will be able to take specialized courses within Fuqua and also to draw on courses taught in the Nicholas School and elsewhere on the Duke campus.
- CSI Fellows program: CSI sponsors activities for interested graduate and undergraduate students including an environmental sustainability speaker series, socials to encourage interaction and learning among students within the program.
- Support for curriculum and course development: CSI will work with faculty to include more sustainability content in business courses and more business training in environmental programs. Additionally, CSI will identify opportunities to enrich sustainability-related materials and opportunities across the university.
- Career development and counseling: CSI will help identify internship and career opportunities for Duke graduates in private, government, and civil society sectors
