Duke Environmental Leadership Program

Program Mission

The Duke Environmental Leadership (DEL) Program advances the Nicholas School Mission by providing innovative educational and outreach opportunities designed specifically for environmental, business and community leaders.

The DEL Program is committed to:

• Emphasizing innovative approaches to teaching and learning
• Cultivating agents of change
• Creating a portal for access into and out of the Nicholas School
• Identifying and developing strategic partnerships
• Focusing on local to global connections

The overall goal of the DEL Program is to improve the knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and leadership capacity among practicing environmental professionals, business executives, K-12 teachers and graduate students. The DEL Program uses a variety of instructional formats in both online and on-campus settings, including case studies, discussions and lectures. Driven by a broad perspective of interdisciplinary and global themes, strategic approaches to environmental management, communication and effective leadership, the DEL Program increases the capacity of the Nicholas School to reach outside audiences and expands access to Nicholas School faculty, research and resources.
