Undergraduate Environmental Research Forum (UERF)

The UERF is a mentoring project that supports undergraduate research projects related to environmental sciences and policy. The undergraduates work with faculty either on an independent project or on some component of the faculty member's research. The UERF awards small grants to cover the costs of supplies or expenses for the undergraduate projects. Past student projects titles:

  • "Beach Management Policy in the Frisian Islands"
  • "The Effects of Environmental Contaminants on the Steroid Metabolism of Mercenaria Mercenaria"
  • "An Analysis of Law and Culture in Turtle Excluder Device Implementation"
  • "Effects of Pressure Systems on Nitrogen Oxide Emissions"
  • "Recycled Paper Initiative at Duke University"

Applications for the UERF are accepted once a year, during the fall semester. Students complete their projects by the end of the following spring semester. Students can mentor with faculty in any department, and are responsible for choosing their mentor and outlining their proposal in the UERF application. Interested students may contact Marie Lynn Miranda, Director of Undergraduate Programs, for recommendations on potential faculty mentors.

To receive an application, please contact the EN Program office.
