Stream Watch

Join Stream Watch on Sunday, August 3, 2008 for the next New Hope Creek sampling date, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The group will meet at the Turkey Farm Road bridge (map). All sampling equipment will be provided.

Stream Watch is affiliated with the Division of Water Resources of the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources (DENR). Volunteers perform water sample tests along New Hope Creek and learn about water quality, indicator species, watersheds and natural resource management.

Bringing the Forest to the Classroom workshop

Please join the Duke Forest and Nicholas School of the Environment for “Bringing the Forest to the Classroom,” a free teacher workshop being held on Monday, August 11, 2008 from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.

The workshop will feature presentations including introduction to the resources available to teachers through the Forest and Nicholas School, as well as hands-on activities with the Forest History Society and researchers in the field.

“Bringing the Forest to the Classroom” is FREE for all teachers, including parking, lunch, materials, and transportation in the Forest.  Additionally, participants will be eligible for 8 hours of Criteria III NCEE credit!  Registration is limited to 25 participants.

2008 Annual Gathering

Please mark your calendar for the Duke Forest's 2008 Annual Gathering, to be held the evening of Thursday, October 16.  Join friends of the Forest for an evening featuring highlights of the past year's research and teaching initiatives, as well as current and planned forest management.

Forest Research Tour

The Duke Forest will kick off its next tour series with a Research Tour, to be held the afternoon of Friday, October 17.  Participants will learn more about the Forest's mission as an outdoor laboratory and current research initiatives.
