If after hours, contact the Marine Superintendent at either of the following numbers: 252-729-1992 (home), 252-728-9156 (cellular). Messages will then be relayed to the vessel immediately for return calls.

Regular daily contact between the CAPE HATTERAS and ship operations is conducted through the use of a variety of communications equipment, usually at 0800 EST. The following is a list of communications forms available:

• Cellular, Voice/FAX - (Contact Marine Operations)

• INMARSAT-M, Voice - (Contact Marine Operations)

• INMARSAT-M, FAX  - (Contact Marine Operations)*
  *PLEASE NOTE: The ship MUST be notified BEFORE FAXing to this number.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL THESE FORMS OF COMMUNICATION ARE OF SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE AND WILL COST THE RECIPIENT OR CHIEF SCIENTIST, AND WILL BE BILLED AT THE END OF EACH CRUISE. SEE "RESEARCH INSTRUMENTATION AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT" FOR DETAILS.

Communication of computer data (text files, station positions, etc.) is possible via INMARSAT C. Contact the technical staff for more detailed information.
