 Join your Duke Fall Semester student at the coast on Thursday and Friday, October 18-19, for a parents/family "Beaufort Experience" weekend at the Duke Marine Laboratory.

Thursday, October 18, 2007

Parents have the option of attending classes in the morning, eating lunch in the dining hall, and attending the Green Wave Environmental Sustainability Seminar “Wetlands Restoration” in the afternoon

10:30 – noon    Analysis of Ocean Ecosystems, Instructor Josh Osterberg

5:30 – 6:30     Wetlands Restoration, Sarah Phillips, NC Coastal Federation

11:00 pm        Welcome and student tours (Auditorium)

1:30 – 3:30     Boat Tour, weather permitting (Marine Lab Dock). Wear closed-toe, rubber-soled, tie shoes
                      Enjoy a relaxing cruise in which you just might see the wild ponies at the
                      Rachel Carson Estuarine Sanctuary or dolphins swimming in the Newport River

5:30               Reception (heavy hors d’oeuvres). Mix and mingle with Marine Lab faculty,
                     staff, students, and the new Dean of the Nicholas School, William Chameides

Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21, 2007   
Free days – Enjoy time in our beautiful community

Airport Information

  • From Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) Airport, the Marine Lab is 180 miles east on Highway 70.

  • Connector flights from RDU to New Bern, NC, Airport are available and the drive to Beaufort is 45 minutes on Highway 70 East.

  • A variety of rental cars is available at both airports.
