Duke Marine Lab Summer Plus
Independent Study Summer Tuition Scholarships
A limited number of tutions fellowships will be offered in summer 2008 to enable students to undertake an extended independent study research program at the Duke Marine Lab.
Eligibility
Students must enroll in independent study for at least one summer (2008) session and in the Fall 2008 academic program at the Marine Lab. A match of faculty mentor to student interest is also required.
To Apply
Submit a statement of interest (including your preliminary fall course selections), a copy of your transcript, and a letter of recommendation to the Undergraduate Program Coordinator, Katie Wood by May 1, 2008. Late applications will be considered only if resources remain available. Students are encouraged to contact Marine Lab professors to identify mentors and potential topics as they prepare their statement of interest.
Examples of independent study topics available:
Prof. Richard Forward physiological ecology of marine invertebrates
Prof. Dan Rittschof: animal behavior and chemical ecology
Drs. Schultz and Carlsson: molecular approaches to marine mammal biology, blue crab population ecology, and deep-sea fungi
Prof. Bill Kirby Smith: coastal water quality studies
Prof. Mike Orbach: the human dimension, coastal and marine policy
