Research Interests:

  • Transport of decapod (esp. blue crab) larvae from oceanic to estuarine habitats and secondary dispersal as juveniles.
  • Salt Marsh Ecology

Education:

  • B.S. Biology, Duke University, 2001
  • M.S. Marine Sciences, University of Georgia, 2004

Bio: I grew up in Blacksburg, VA, located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Although I have always been interested in biology, my interest in marine biology grew out of a semester and summer spent at DUML during undergrad. DUML was easily my best academic experience at Duke. After graduating, I spent a year as an environmental educator in Charleston, SC before accepting a Graduate School Fellowship to attend The University of Georgia. At Georgia, I spent countless hours up to my knees (or further) in salt marsh mud investigating the causes of an unprecedented salt marsh dieback event. After that experience, I couldn't wait to move back to Beaufort to live at the coast full time.

Publications: Ogburn, MB and M Alber. 2006. An Investigation of Salt Marsh Dieback in Georgia using Field Transplants. Estuaries and Coasts 29(1): 54-62.

Hobbies: Kayaking, sailing, photography, gardening, cooking, soccer, ultimate frisbee, hiking.
