Research Interests:

  • Deep-sea hydrothermal vents
  • Deep-sea biology
  • Chemical and physical cues used by hydrothermal vent larvae and adults

Education:

  • BS in Biology, 2001. College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA

Bio: I grew up outside Boston and have always been fascinated with the water, especially deep water. I studied under Cindy Lee Van Dover at Williams & Mary, which is where I was introduced to the amazing world of hydrothermal vents. I am incredibly fortunate to have been down in the submersible Alvin three times, and the Russian submersible Mir 2 once. Here at the Duke Marine Lab, under the guidance of Dr. Dan Rittschof, my focus is on identifying the chemical and physical cues used by adult and larval hydrothermal vent crustaceans. I plan to investigate larval settlement cues, reproductive pheromones, feeding cues, and their possible use of light emitted from vents.
