Leadership Gifts
Leadership Gifts work to strengthen the Nicholas School
by supporting endowed professorships, student scholarships,
faculty research, academic programs and other projects.
The Nicholas School encourages alumni, parents, and
friends to make a difference in the life of a young
environmentalist by supporting the School and its programs.
Increasing endowed financial support is the greatest
long-term need of the School.

Naming Opportunities
Naming opportunities are available
to recognize major support of scholarships, professorships
and other special programs. Opportunities also exist
for named spaces. Matching or challenge funds may be
available to provide additional leveraging of major
gift support.
Affording Opportunity: Duke’s Financial Aid Initiative
Duke University seeks to raise $300 million in endowment
for financial aid by the end of 2008—$245 million
for undergraduate scholarships and $55 million for
graduate and professional school students. The Nicholas
School goal of $5 million is part of the university-wide
initiative.
Endowment gifts become a permanent source of financial
support for Nicholas School students receiving aid
every year. Gifts are invested, and a portion of the
annual earnings is spent on student aid while the rest
remains invested. In this way, endowment funds continue
to grow and become an even greater source of funding
for students in the future.
Leadership and Naming opportunities are available
through this initiative. Visit the Financial
Aid Initiative website >> for
more information.
