FAQs about the Duke Marine Lab
How do I get to Beaufort?
From Durham follow I-40 East toward Wilmington/Benson,
Smithfield, Selma. (Do not take any 70 East business routes!).
The correct exit is 306. Follow 70E all the way to Beaufort
(through Goldsboro - be sure to take the by-pass!), Kinston,
New Bern, Havelock, and Morehead City.) 70 East also is the
main street, Arendell Street, in Morehead City. Continue on
70 E through Morehead over a high rise bridge (Newport River).
From the base of the bridge it is .6 miles (or second right
turn) to the turn for the Duke University
Marine Lab. Cross the railroad tracks and go straight
over the very small bridge onto Pivers Island. Ignore the
first two left turns (these are federal NOAA buildings) and
either turn left at the third drive or go straight to parking
lots at the back of the island.
