STATE PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUPS (PIRGs)

The state Public Interest Research Groups (the state PIRGs) are a
nation-wide network of state-based public interest advocacy groups. This
year we are hiring 120 graduating college students to determine where this
country is going: to solve our energy problems; to protect our national
forests; to reform the campaign finance system; to clean up our air; to
safeguard individuals from identity theft; and make an impact on many other public interest issues.

With a bachelor’s degree, an individual joins one of ICF Consulting’s practices as a Research Assistant (RA). An RA plays an active role on project teams, typically working on multiple projects concurrently with all levels of staff. Responsibilities include assisting with data collection and analysis, reviewing literature, conducting interviews and surveys, solving quantitative and qualitative problems, interacting with federal clients and private-sector organizations, and performing computer applications. Working both independently and as part of a team, an RA is able to fine-tune his or her consulting and research skills in a challenging and professional environment.

Qualifications include a GPA of 3.2 or higher, excellent oral and written communication skills, superior analytical abilities, and solid computer skills, with Microsoft applications, particularly Word and Excel, preferred. Some RA positions may also require outstanding quantitative skills, experience with specific software, or knowledge of a foreign language.

Junior Environmental Scientist

A client is currently seeking an individual to provide support in
preparing facility plans and performing environmental site assessments
in its Annapolis, MD office. Selected person will be involved in several ongoing projects, which will involve frequent local travel (driving with mileage reimbursement) throughout MD, DE, VA, and WV. Occasional overnight stays are necessary when subject sites or clients are located too far to return the sameday. There is also opportunity to participate in regulatory compliance audits, which normally involve travel from Sunday evening through Friday evening. Travel time varies greatly, but experience to date indicates that approximately 50% of time is spent traveling locally, plus
week-long trips once every 6 weeks.

Educational Requirements: Prefer Science, geology or engineering degrees
but would consider other degrees related to environmental science field
Applicant must be prepared to work independently as much local travel is
performed alone after training. Attention to detail and strong
communication skills, including technical writing and interviewing site
owners/operators, are critical.

This is a small office (7 people) in a location convenient to Route 50
and Route 97. Our client is a small firm with a casual but professional
atmosphere. All work is guided by senior professionals, and its staff
takes a team approach for all projects.

This is a contract position (minimum 2 months of estimated work) with a
strong possibility of leading to direct employment with our client should workload continue to increase.

Pay Rate: $15.38/hour

Research Analysts - Arlington, VA

We are currently seeking two Research Analysts with 0-1 years of experience to support project teams at our client's Arlington, VA office. Our client is supporting a Drinking Water contract for the EnvironmentaI Protection Agency. Ideal candidates will have very strong written and oral communication skills and a Bachelors' degrees in science, policy, economics, or related field with an overall GPA of at least 3.2. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on quantitative analyses (e.g., creating and manipulating Excel spreadsheets and databases), as well as proofreading long documents, Web design, and conducting research via the Internet in support of a drinking water contract. The ideal candidate will also be a detail-oriented problem solver with a willingness to learn new subject matter and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.

Web design is a useful skill, but not a necessary skill. Educational background in science, economics and/or the environmental field is necessary.

Salary: $16-$18/hour

Policy Analyst - Arlington, VA

We are currently seeking a mid-level Policy Analyst with a minimum of 5+ years of experience to support project teams in at client's Arlington, VA office. Ideal candidates will have very strong written and oral communication skills, a graduate level degree in policy, science, economics, or a related field. Candidates must have a significant amount of direct experience in the drinking water and/or waste water fields. Candidates should be comfortable developing quantitative analyses (e.g., creating and manipulating Excel spreadsheets and databases) and presenting results through the development of complex, yet user-friendly technical documents. Experience with project management, grant/proposal writing, and analysis of industry pricing structures is a plus. The ideal candidate will also be a detail-oriented problem solver with a willingness to learn new subject matter and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams.

Salary: $22-$25/hour

GREEN CORPS' ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM:

Each year, Green Corps offers one-year paid fellowships to recent college graduates, providing them with the hands-on training and experience they'll need to launch their social change organizing and advocacy careers. Fellows in the program spend a year participating in a rigorous classroom training program and coordinating field campaigns with national environmental groups. Our recent campaigns have included working to protect the world's water resources from corporate greed with Corporate Accountability International, educating the public about global warming with the World Wildlife Fund, and protecting communities from toxics with the Toxics Action Center.

At the end of the year, Green Corps fellows can go on to start their own non-profit groups or run the field operations of leading state, local or national groups. In the past twelve years, Green Corps has trained over 180 young people who have held leadership positions in environmental and social change groups like Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Rainforest Action Network.

We are looking for people who are serious about saving the planet, have experience working with environmental or social change issues, and have demonstrated leadership experience. Salary & Benefits.
