186S. The San Andreas Fault and Geology of West-Central California. NS,
QID, STS Field oriented course on the Cenozoic regional geology of west-central California
along the San Andreas fault between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Emphasis on direct observation
of the human impact of the active tectonics and its effects on engineering practice. Qualitative
and quantitative descriptions of the effects and damages of past earthquakes, landslides,
and ground water changes on the environment. Particular focus on the Parkfield section of
the San Andreas, site of an international drilling effort. Includes required field trip over
fall break. Prerequisite: EOS 11. Instructor: Malin.
